Limited attack

Post by Rasputino22 »

Why would I have to use the "limited attack" command in this game? What advantage does it have? I can't think of an example where to use it. Tell me an example where it can be useful, please.

In limited attack mode, your attacking units don't advance in the attacked hex, even if enemy units are made to retreat or are eliminated. There are instances where this can prove advantageous, e.g. when adjacent hexes are strongly held by the enemy and you risk being decisively counter-attacked if ever you advanced.

Limited Attacks are very useful when you don't want to make a Minimal or Ignore Losses Attack. Probably 90% or more of my attacks are Limited. Not that that is the way to play all scenarios, but it's one way to do things.

If the targeted enemy units are in a deployment mode anything other than "moving" or "mobile" [ in other words: D,E, or F ] then I like to do my first assault with a minimum losses state just to dislodge the dug in units from their hidee hole....change them to an undugin state, usually "mobile". Once all or at least most of the enemy units are not dug in any longer then some two-dot attacks are next until most of the enemy units are gasping for breath, short on ammo and suffering too much gas from too many beans, then I like to finish them off with an all-out slugfest three-dot attack. You are to realize that I'm describing a "normal", planned, set-piece attack and not a meeting engagement, a hasty attack with the "wrong" kind of unit, an extended RBC that lasts several hexes, etc. Each different situation may well call on for a different configuration for your units, a different deployment. What is called for in each different situation is usually your best weapon if possible, the least worst if need be. In that order. In other words, use your stand off weapons as early and as much as possible....your arty and mortars....your indirect fire weapons. Only after that commit your ground forces as the situation calls for.
