How to set up a constant CAP with different aircraft?

Post by davedashftw »

Let's suppose I have 3 F-14A's and 3 F-14B's, what combination of AAW patrol settings can I use to get a CAP of 2 aircraft at a time that rotates through ALL the planes assigned to the mission? 1/3rd rule will put 2 F-14A's and 2 F-14B's up at the same time, unless I am doing something wrong.

Or if I have a mix of aircraft, say F-15C's and F-16s, is there a way to get them to take turns at CAP missions? Same as above.

A quick and simple way of doing it is to clone the mission, set one up for F-14A and the other for F-14B. Set flight size to 1 and 1/3 rule will keep one of each on CAP continuously. Not clean and they won't be in formation but it will achieve what you wish.

There may be a better way but this will work.

That's how I would do it.

The current system only allows aircraft of the same type/loadout to be grouped.

Thanks both.

That workaround makes sense.

Under the right circumstances, the above is simple and works well. If you really need homogenous missions that allow changing aircraft type on CAP, you can use events to activate and deactivate missions. You will have to place RPs closely around the airport with an exclusion zone. As the CAP aircraft enter the zone on RTB, the activate the next CAP. Its not quite that easy and takes a lot of finagling of RP and timing. If you know lua, its pretty easy with little finagling.
