Cargo 2.0 Containers for large munitions

Post by Tred »

Howdy folks. Longtime CMO/CMANO player but first timer on here. I also didn't play with the Tiny development beta and just got all the new goodies with the official release. So I'm giddy, especially about the new cargo features. First question: Are there not large enough containers to move large munitions between ports like Tomohawk missiles? How can we do this? I can't figure out how to transport large ship based munitions from one place to another.

Thanks.

Hi kahta. Thanks for the report.

I've looked into this and the issue is with the values in the database for the cargo size rating of the RGM-109s and some other large missiles. They're set to 'medium' cargo size when they technically should be set to 'small.' This medium size rating prevents them from fitting into any of the existing containers. We'll get this fixed but it will need a database update. So it will probably be about a month or two before it is available to you.

I've found the same problem with multiple munitions and cargo containers now, too. Even some relatively small munitions won't fit in large containers, let alone a container large enough for large munitions.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet in any update I might have missed?

Thanks.

Hi folks. Is this still in the pipeline for being fixed? Or has it been fixed and I'm missing something? Thanks

Hi Tred -- the specific issue with missiles being assigned a larger-than-expected size class has been fixed. If you have specific weapons you think are still taking up too much space, please let me know which. Thanks!

Hi Steve.

So I just began playing with the most recent V. 1.06 Steam update and I still can't seem to fit certain munitions into any containers for cargo transport. Is there a container big enough for Tomahawk missiles, for example? But even smaller stuff like JASSM missiles won't fit into the largest container at all for transport...the 40ft ISO containers. Am I missing something silly perhaps?

Thanks you!

Thanks for the information. I just did some testing on the current 64-bit Steam build to double check this.

The 'size' category for these missiles isn't preventing them from being loaded, but the physical length and width of the missile may still be too large for the container.

A tomahawk is 6.2m x 2.6m according to the DB, which means it's too long for a 20 foot cargo container. You can fit it in a 40 foot container but at 2.6m in 'height' while lying on its side it can't be stacked and you can only fit the one.

The JASSMs are short enough (4.7m) to fit in both a 20 foot and 40 foot cargo container, but again they're too 'wide' (2.4m) to put side-by-side or stack. So you can get 1 in a 20 foot container and 2 in a 40 foot container.

Part of this may be a data issue (we don't have data in our DB on which weapons may have 'folded' wings reducing shipping size.) This is a longer-term issue that we will need to evaluate.

Thanks Steve.

I have noticed that sometimes I have to "reset" to load smaller portions of larger munitions when they intermittently won't fit, and then they do with a reset opening the "load container" button. I'll try again.

Does anyone know how the military transports very large munitions? Do they have something bigger than the 40ft containers?

Thanks again!

Hmm. I just tried it again, to put one tomahawk or even one JASSM into a single 40ft (or 20ft in the case of JASSM's), both open and closed, and they won't fit. Am I doing something wrong? How are people moving these things around via cargo?

Thanks again.

I created a blank new scenario, added a side, added an ammo bunker facility, then selected the bunker and clicked edit cargo. On the edit cargo form I added a 20 foot and 40 foot container, then selected each container and clicked 'edit container.' I clicked weapon id 11 and 'load selected' to add a JASSM in the 20 foot container, and the same steps with weapon id 230 to add a tomahawk to add the 40 foot container.

Here's the scenario file I saved after doing this.

Hmmm. Yeah, it's not letting me do it. I have the latest database and created a new scenario. It still does not allow me to click on "load selected" for either a Tomahawk in a 40ft container or a JASSM into a 20ft one. It just doesn't give me the option of adding certain weapons (in this case JASSM to 20ft container, nor a Tomahakw to a 40ft one).

Well, we can close this one out. I got frustrated and just reinstalled. Now it's working like a charm.

Thank you for your time!

Ok, thanks for letting me know. I will look into it further but I'm glad it is working now.

EDIT: There was a bug here with loading weapons into containers when you have the 'US units of measure' option on. This will be fixed in a future update (probably 1.06.1328.10)
