New player with questions

Post by Varak »

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place, but I have a question that I can't seem to figure out. (others I've been able to figure just by experimenting and digging through the manual)

I'm playing Axis, and checking out Italian supply in N. Africa prior to war breaking out there. When I bring up the supply number overlay, there are no numbers on the N. African coast, but 5s, 4s, and 3s on the water hexes adjacent to the coast. Does (for example) Tobruk just supply sea hexes from the port, and none on land? Or is it perhaps a glitch? If it is how it appears, how do I get supply to Axis forces east of Benghazi? (even though Tobruk shows no supply numbers on land, a nearby unit has the supply level I would expect.

Everywhere else, the supply numbers and situation make sense, just not here.

Oh! I just thought of something else. How do I get the partisan spawning symbols to appear?

Cheers!

Hi. Supply numbers won't display for possessions like Libya until Italy is an active participant in the War.

To see partisan spawning locations hit the "p" key.

Thanks!

So is it just that the numbers don't display, or is there no supply in those hexes? I never realized that Libya was actually a sovereign nation that was occupied by Italy, as most wargames seem to treat it as a part of Italy proper.

Good to know about the 'p' key. I assume there's no way to bring that up (or swap units for that matter) without using the keyboard? (I like to loll on the couch and play on a big screen TV, having the keyboard handy is awkward lol)

The supply is there, just the numbers aren't displayed when a nation is neutral. You'll notice in the 1939 start that in addition to Libya there are no supply numbers displayed for Italy proper, or other Italian possessions like Albania or Rhodes. However, there are supply numbers that display for Italian-owned Ethiopia and Somalia which I assume is because they are considered as sovereign nations recently occupied by an Axis power.

If you begin a 1939 game as the Allies, you won't see any ground supply numbers displayed for the Soviet Union or the United States or other neutrals until they enter the war.

Ah ok, I get it. I never noticed any of those other examples, I only noticed because I chose to deploy Graziani to Benghazi, and he was kind of transparent, which I remembered from the manual I dictated a supply issue. So I clicked to bring up the numbers and thought, "WTF?" :) :D

Since I have your attention, another question if you don't mind.

To cut road/rail connections from resources, do you actually need a unit sitting on the road/rail, or just to put a hex of it within your occupied territory?

Cheers!

You only have to exert control over the hex, not actually have a unit on it. It's my understanding that resources like mines and oil wells will still provide MPPs for their owner even if they have their rail and road connections cut, but at a diminished capacity due to poorer supply levels. How much that reduces their productivity I'm not sure.
