For the Infallible Koba GAME #2 (Soviet team game GC)

Post by Beethoven1 »

This AAR is for Game # 2 of a team game, with 4 or 5 players on each side.

The AAR for the first game is here - https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 2&t=386674

The teams are:

Beethoven - High Commander Red Army
IDGBIA/IGBAlt - Commander North-Western Direction
Bread/RedJohn - Commander of the Western Direction
fracas - Commander of the Southern Direction
Thistle Tea - Commander of the VVS (joined starting turn 5, prior to that air was done by Beethoven)
tm1 - Stalin role playing

ADB_Iceman/Crackaces - Wehrmacht High Command
HLYA - High Command of the Luftwaffe (Through turn 2), replaced by Intelligent on turns 3+
Butcherbiird- Army Group North
Panzer_Freak - Army Group Center (Through turn 3, replaced by dh on turn 4+)
Veterin - Army Group South
HLYA - Luftwaffe (joined late in the game)

Currently we are on Axis turn 4. The AAR will begin for turn 1 below. After that there will be a bit of a pause until further updates, in order to maintain some fog of war to surprise the Axis with STAVKA's fiendish plans.

Axis Turn 1

Axis did HLYA's opener with a large Rovno pocket, which as far as I can tell is basically the exact same as how he did things in his very helpful step by step guide which you can see in the war room (here: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 1&t=390004)

Soviet air losses numbered 4300+:

Ground losses were 282k:

And in addition, 690k Soviets with 9.5k guns and 5.6k AFVs were isolated (and these were not the sort of pockets that you can hope to break):

And in addition to that, many troops in the southern front would be doomed because the southern front was still frozen, and some units south of Lvov would be unable to escape, due to the change in a fairly recent patch where the starting position of 1 Romanian unit was moved 1 hex to block Soviets from being able to rail units out from the Lvov pocket.

So basically, from turn 1 much of the Soviet Southwestern and southern fronts was effectively destroyed or doomed.

Nevertheless, the mood at STAVKA was not overly pessimistic, we looked forward to the game and prepared the 19th and 20th Armies, which were forming around Smolensk, to launch an immediate offensive to take Berlin.

Greetings Patriots of the Motherland your Glorious ( dictator ) Leader Comrade Stalin here, once again our Glorious Homeland is being invaded, I cannot seem to get a moments peace in this place, I had just finished sending out some (deportation orders ) invitations to a ( Siberian Gulag ) Resort In the Far East to some close friends.

I know what you mean, it feels like this exact same thing keeps happening and happening over and over again every June 22, 1941. It's like groundhogs day out there, watch out and stay safe, folks.

If I where playing soviets I'd be pretty happy with that opening, the central and south are areas are doomed but they always are, sure the south might be a bit more doomed than normal but the north looks good. I'd say nearly a full turn has been lost on moving north and towards Smolensk.

If I may interject - how do these things get organized? I certainly know a guy or two who might be interested.

Generally over discord. Here is an invite link for the Koba server where which we use to organize the game, make strategy and orders, share PBEM saves, etc - https://discord.gg/bvRP3YwAEB

Also for anyone interested in WITE more generally (especially AARs), I would suggest joining the Kulik server on discord. It has 36 active or semi-active WITE2 AARs at the moment, plus some more in the archives from completed games. It is the most active place for WITE2 discussion that I am aware of. Yeah, the losses from the Rovno pocket are painful, but at least for this opening there are some advantages for Soviets in north/center. I think the main advantage for Axis is it eliminates many of the high morale Soviet units, and those are the ones which are especially valuable if used properly.

However, it is also possible to do the Rovno pocket while sending fewer motorized units to the south (perhaps without getting some of the extra units in the swamps etc though).

Greetings Patriots your Glorious Leader speaking to you again in these worrying times with our brave soldiers fighting on the front to defend the Motherland against all who seek to try to destroy ( my Dictatorship ) our great country.

I have made it my duty to make certain that not one of our brave soldiers never give up one inch of ground to the enemy at this time,to this end my NKVD police have been touring the front lines showing a patriotic film to many units in order to instil a sense of duty and loyalty ( to me )from the common soldier on the battlefield fighting for our glorious cause.

However it seems at this time some sought of ceasefire has taken place across Europe, with no information at this present time of how the current battlefield situation stands, so I took it upon my self to find out what my Generals were up to and whether there was treason afoot or they had just fallen asleep again.

Sending my best spies to STAVKA Headquarters they returned to tell me the place is empty, it was at this point I was about to send orders for all 5 Generals to be shot, when I looked down at my copy of Pravda newspaper to see a picture of the 5 buffoons attending a soccer match !!!!!

I was enraged then I saw what competition it was and who was playing.

UEFA Cup Time

Once I realised the international stakes of the competition and the prestige of a victory here for the Soviet Union I immediately disguised myself and went to support our team anyway I could.

In a enthralling game Moscow Dnyamo were victorious for the Motherland.
