Warplan Pacific - Carrier battles

Post by Garush »

Hi everyone !

I'm trying to play Warplan Pacific. I said : « Trying ». I played a lot of games on Warplan Europe, cause I love this great game, even made 4 Youtube videos on it. But Pacific... I don't understand anything !

There's a lot of things to say. But the last one was carriers battles. In a game, I'm playing the Allies. My opponents send a strong Japanese fleet with 6 carriers near Panaji, India. I wanted to attack with the US fleet, so I used an operation point for a carrier battle, where I lost 2 carriers for... no loses for the japanese. So I used British fleet just to sunk at leat a ship... for a fight without any no result.

Finaly, I just wanted to use another US fleet with 4 carriers and an operation point remaining. But when I wanted to make the battle, I had the frustrating message « May not occupy same hex as enemy fleet ». ??? I don'(t want to OCCUPY this hex, I want to SUNK those ships !!!

Could you tell me what's the problem, please ? Playing a Pacific WW2 wargame without understanding how to fight (and win) carriers battles is just impossible.

Thanks for your answer.

Which advancement do you have in carrier operations? I think the range of your carrier based planes is 3 hexes. You can't put a fleet on top of an enemy fleet.

So either you advance in 3 hexes range of the enemy fleet with your last OP. But not sure the Japanese CV has already engaged twice. Either you leave the battle.

My advice leave this battle. Because you are around next turn, the Japanese CV fleet will sunk your US carrier fleet.

Ok. Thank you.

Indeed, the range of embarked planes is 3 hexes. In this case, I wonder what the red circle around my fleet corresponds to. I thought that was the strike zone.

And sorry for the wrong forum.

The red circle is the naval intercept zone which is 5 hexes. You can de-activate it in settings if you don't want it to show.

Garush,

Hopefully you won't give up to quickly...I know a few that have...

Just takes time to figure out the bits and pieces of the naval.

Honestly I am still learning nearly every game I play.

Same ! You're right, stjeand. I think the naval warfare is the most difficult thing to understand in Warplan. I already gave up 3 of my Warplan Pacific game, but I'm still fighting on this one. Looks like it's pretty difficult for the Japanese player. Well, we'll see what will happen.

Well I mean give up playing the game...Individual games that is fine especially early.

A blunder can end the war for Japan on turn 3.

When beginning many have to play a game for 3 to 10 turns just to get a feel for the start.
