Axis Raiding results - a Guide

Post by firsteds »

Fellow troopers.

I thought I would share a guide on the results of Axis raiding, as it is pretty complex. We are talking only about raiding using the RED hexes with a single unit (not general convoy raiding or reducing a port with two ships). Also, this guide only covers red hexes that can be easily raided in 1939-1941, so there are no US, Caribbean or South American targets.

The following list explains whether the raiding will damage the port or town (or both):

Target? Port damage? City damage?

Calcutta No Yes
Trincomalee No Yes
Dar es Salaam Yes No
Capetown Yes No
Sydney Yes Yes
Perth Yes Yes
Melbourne Yes Yes
Wellington Yes Yes
London Yes No
Bristol Yes No
Glasgow/Man No Yes (x2)
Rosyth/Ambr Yes (x2) No
Quebec No Yes
Nauru No Yes (mine)

There are also three targets where the raiding will STOP the local convoy after just one turn: Capetown, Sydney, Wellington. (There are also hexes where you can be both red hex raiding and normal convoy raiding, e.g. Glasgow, but they don't 'stop' the convoy).

There appear to be seven targets where raiding will potentially trigger a home defence unit to appear. This is slightly randomised. The units will appear in Australia, despite the multiple target locations: Calcutta, Trincomalee, Nauru, Sydney, Wellington, Melbourne and Perth. Multiple raiding may trigger multiple home defence units.

Finally, the damage is usually 1-2 points per turn, but this is cumulative up to the maximum strength of the target port or city (or both). So after a while it could be worth 10-12 points per turn for a major resource, or even higher when the raiding damages two targets (e.g. Rosyth and Ambrose). Damage also continues, but diminishes, for a few turns after raiding.

Corrections, edits and suggestions welcome. Also, if anyone knows how to reformat the table be my guest.
