Question about zoom levels

Post by Sunbather »

When playing Middle East it drives me up the walls that there is no lock at the end of the zoom level. So when I want to go quickly from 2D view to 3D view and I use the scroll wheel of my mouse, it frequently shoots beyond the mark and since there is no lock at the closest zoom level it switches to the farthest zoom level. I hope I made this somewhat understandable.

It seems like switiching between the different zooms is even more important in Vietnam due to the big maps. Is there a lock now at the min/max of zoom levels?

Also, I wonder if it is possible to somehow manipulate the available zoom levels or assign them new hotkeys. Depending on the map, I maybe would only need zoom level 2 and 5 (and 1 to admire the graphics which I really like btw). So there is no need for me to have so many zoom levels beyond that and in between. Maybe it is possible to be able to deselect certain zoom levels in the "View" menu?

Did you know that you can use the numbers (above the letter keys) on the keyboard to use as shortcuts?

1 through 9 are the respect zoom levels. I do not believe it is possible to reassign them, this is hardcoded.

You can also change which way (in or out) the zoom scrolls, under Options.

The problem with the numbers on the keyboard is that it is quite a stretch from 1 to 6 or even 7 to change quickly between the zoom levels. I guess, I am still a bit too young and tweaky for these kind of wargames, haha.

But the most important question remains: when I scroll my mouse wheel forward when I am already in the highest zoom level (1) will it then go further and jump back to the furthest zoom level (9)? In CS: Middle East it is a continous loop, I could go through all the zoom levels only by scrolling the mouse wheel forward. And since there is a small delay when switching the zoom levels, it happens frequently to me that I want the zoom level 1 but end up in zoom level 9. I hope, I could express myself clearer now, haha.

Oh yes, sorry, I misunderstood.

If I scroll the mousewheel, I will flip through all the zoom levels 1 through 9 and then it will return to 1 when I scroll past 9, and so on.

If you watch any of my videos, you can see me doing this frequently.

Oh, the misunderstanding was certainly due to my bad English which gets even worse when having to talk about such things like zoom level controls.
I guess, I have to keep practicing with CS: Middle East so I don't constantly overshoot when trying to navigate to a zoom level.
Thanks for the answer!
