allied reinforcements

Post by snuffl »

I played the Campaign 41 on the Japanese side and managed it to conquer the whole India by march 42

now i can see almost every turn the allied AI is coming up with fresh divisions in my occupied city of calcutta so i have to leave 2-3 IJA divisions there

is that a bug ? i don't understand how they could come to there they must have dug a tunnel :)

i play pac war ver. 3.2

thx snuffl!

According to the manual, that's not supposed to happen. Of couse, what the manual says and what the game actually does are sometimes two different things. In the epic Peter Vs. Graham AAR on this forum, when Graham overran all of India, no further Allied LCU's appeared there.

However, they were playing Version 3.0. Is it possible that SEAC HQ is still functioning in your game?

One last point--this could be a good thing for the Japanese. Without supplies, the Allied LCU's should be fairly easy to wipe out, thus giving you a rich harvest of victory points.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

lack of troops is a serious pain

Post by deVada »

India remained in Japanese hands until the war's end (SEAC was all the time active), but in Australia no units appeared after recapturing Sydney and Melbourne in 1945. ANZAC was also never destroyed.
Only few RAAF squadrons were formed in Sydney, and some minor ships appeared in Sydney.

The manual is wrong I assume then.

Capt. Harlock is right that without those extra troops allies have a serious problem.

In some of older game versions (2.3 as I remember) the game was even more unfair, as Imperial GHQ or West Coast HQ reappeared at Tokyo / San Francisco turn by turn after those bases were captured and HQs destroyed.
It costed me few nice air squadrons that time, before I was amused to take enemy side for a while and move those HQs to other locations.
In 3.0 it was OK with Tokyo, so that is proably fixed now.

Allied miracles

I played as Japan (V 3.2) and also encountered reappearing Allied divisions in Calcutta and lost San Francisco each turn again and again. See more:showthread.php?postid=412128#post412128

You shouldn't be taking San Francisco as the IJN player:eek: You're exploiting the game mechanics :D

I take it that's a joke? :) How else can we liberate North America except by utterly destroying the US's heart and brain?

America may have left its heart in San Francisco -- but I'd look for the brain elsewhere. [:D]

Nice one. :) As for brain... I think n/a "applies" when playing the computer as I am wont to do.

I think the reappearing Commonwealth forces has always happened in Pacific War. They reappear without hope of resupply supplies, so leave a large garrison, wait a few turns after the enemy appear so that their initial supplies are gone, then attack and score a load of points by forcing a surrender. Then repeat over and over.

Yes, I have a hazy memory of it happening in version 1. I'm sure it is a bug because if they represented an attack from the rest of India (Calcutta is one tiny corner of the country, India is mostly off map) they ought to at least have a supply line.

If you want to play fair you can just leave a small garrison there and ignore them. In my current game I'd forgotten this bug and had just shipped out all troops except for 1 division when they appeared! Version 3.2 has massively beefed up allies and it looks like I need all my troops just to take out Australia (which still is part free in '43!!!). Ugh.

Not at the beginning. Version 3.2 puts a premium on fast movement by the Japanese in the early turns. My humble advice would be to grab Clark and a few other bases in the Philippines, then wait while you go as far into India as possible. Note also that the road path around Australia now has a break. If you take Cairns and/or Townsville the Allies cannot move up reinforcements to the bases north and west.

Actually after I posted this and the post about 3.2 first impression I started anew and relearned some of my old tricks. I did have a sneaking suspicion that I'd been moving way too slowly and I was right. 14 years you forget a lot! I recall now that even in 1.1 if you waited too long the allies would start to solidfy. I'm thinking not of India of course but the Pacific Isles. And Oz... too slow and it is stuffed full of US troops.

It is an impressive game. It really takes a long time to learn and re-learn.
