Minor problem with float planes

Post by Subchaser »

I noticed this design flaw long time ago but it wasn’t bothering me much until now, in my latest pbem I’ve run into this problem once again and now it’s causing troubles.

The problem is -float and patrol planes don’t need airfields to fly, calm bay or little lagoon can replace airstrip for these types. They can rely on AV support when land based support unavailable. If it’s so, why damage to a/f runways and a/f service facilities ground these planes. They can’t fly from airfields with 50+ damage, and cannot be transferred to a ship or to another base from a damaged airfield. Float squadrons were always operating from harbors, so it would be more logic if damage to a port would cause such problems. This should be fixed and I hope this flaw won’t be copied in WitP.

I’ve missed it, sorry for bringing dusty stuff from garage to the hall :)

Not at all! Come again and you’ll see! ;)

This problem is from another game, Mavis sqn was operating from forward base at Rennell island, last turn US carriers bombed Rennell island back to jurassic period and this valuable unit is as good as lost now

Basing floatplanes on base without airfield assures they are never trapped. Tulagi once extended to port 3 is a good place as one can bring an AV here for support.

Float plane service

btw.
shouldn't any ship with float plane facilities (like CA, BB) add a couple of points of aviation support like AV's do ?

Nope! They were not auxilliaries but major combatants. Can you imagine what a battleship captain would say if he was asked to "bring over that behemoth, my stringbag needs detailing"? Just because ships have galleys does not mean the grunts at the base eat any better.:D
