Changing default user folder?

Post by Elessar2 »

Issue is that SC somehow defaulted to a folder that I do not want to use (when I installed it on my new machine 2 months ago-only noticed today). [long story short it ended up in a cloud folder, and I loathe cloud crap with a passion, esp. when Microshaft kindly asks me to pay for extra storage space, like they just did today]

There's no option in the editor itself to specify a default path, nor is there an entry in the localization file for that either. Attempts to get it to load a scenario from the new location i chose results in an error where it refuses to load the matching scripts, because it is looking in the default location (and not where I moved it).

Managed to turn off cloud backups here locally, so the core issue has been resolved. I guess the folder path is hardcoded somewhere?

Yes the USER folder is locked in and follows Windows protocol, e.g. there was a change around the time of Vista where using the install folder became problematic and the suggested folder for game files became the Documents folder.

Many programs follow this protocol now and even Anti-Virus software ties into this protocol as well.

From our end, this is also now standard protocol for all Slitherine/Matrix games, as all game installers work with this folder as well as and when needed.
