help a noobie?
Hello everybody!
I bought RDOA two weeks ago and was playing the demo before that (about 6 months!).
I have some questions?
-what does 'probe' mean, is it something like 'recon'?
-how does the resupply works? Do I have to occupie dropzones?
I love the game, especially since I regularly visit the real battlefield.
My only wish is that there will be the option to devide the companies up into platoons. And the option to zoom in on induvidual houses and streets/crossings (???).
bye

In answer to your questions (regarding the version you have):
A PROBE is the same as an ATTACK, but with different settings for various task parameters.
In the unpatched version of AA, resupply took place at 12am and 3am. This was a bug. In a later patch, it was corrected to just be 3am. Resupply is implemented in a fairly simple fashion, there is no implementation of supply routes through the battlefield. This has been discussed and requested as a future feature in the series.
There are two patches to the game that were released. (They contained both bug fixes and new features.) They are:
aaupdate1145.exe 4.7Mb
aaupdate1246.exe 9.1Mb
I am not sure where you can download them from.
Okay, I just checked with a search. You can get them here:

Take a look in the Airborne Assault\Html directory for the History.html ... run it, it's got the updated commands.
Supply is handled as a 3am update to units where they get their share of goodies based on the level you set prior to starting. It is abstracted in that you don't need to be in the drop zones controlling them to get your goods.

Dutchguy,
Welcome to the club!
You can view a Probe as an attack that is not pressed home if stiff opposition is met. In RDOA this was accomplished by lowering the Aggro and Losses settings. In HTTR we further enhance this order by allowing the force to "bunker down" if it gets too tough. In which case, the force will Defend in a safe nearby position. This allows them to pull back slightly but still keep the objective nearby.
The other posts have already replied on the supply.
As to platoon breakdowns, well not for now. HTTR employs a whole new set of unit estabs, which effectively break down the big battalion units into their respective company constituents. We don't have any plans for doing liekewise for companies into platoons. The scale of the system is aimed at simulating the operational level where players command Corps and Divisions. there are several scenarios where you also command Brigades/Regiments.
Again, zooming in on individual houses would be great. It's probably essential for a tactical game, but not so for our operational level. Maybe in the future when PCs are more powerful and when all your friends have bought copies and we can afford to invest the resources needed.
Anyway, please enjoy RDOA. You had better hurry up though, HTTR is on the way.

I think I'm enjoying it too much. Started historical campaign, it's day four and I got my Paras dug in the northern side of the road bridge. Now if only someone told those Jerries to go away, so my troops could have their compulsory tea-break.Originally posted by Arjuna

thank you all for your help.
(I bought the CDV cd-rom btw)
I will now use the 'probing' more, but I still don't understand everything about the resupplying. I was playing the 'historical' battle with 1st airborne and at the beginning of day three my RA light regt was out of ammo (well, they weren't firing anymore) and that's not funny when half the German army was between 1st para/1st airlanding/1st airborne div in arnhem and arnhem west/denbrink and 4th para in Oosterbeek!
When I was looking at some screenshots of RDOA I saw that the screenshots had different colours than the version I posses, is this normal, or just a another (better?) version?
thanks again,
greetings mark

Out of ammo by day three is pretty historical
Basically, from my understanding, at 3am, units get resupplied based on the supply setting when you start the game (more, historical, less). Obviously, the historical option should pretty much have you tossing sticks and stones because there was nothing left after a few days.

I have to say I found AA very accessible and with a fairly gentle learning curve but there again I started playing as the Germans in the historical scenario and went 'up' from there (the 'Deelen option' scenario being the most difficult imho). I then switched to the Brits and went the other way. I left the smaller scenarios until later. Worked for me anyhow:)
Thankyou for using the World Wide Web. British designed, given freely to the World.
This is about right. Each unit type has a set maximum for supplies - it can't get more ammo than this level. At 3am, depending on what level of supply you selected when starting the scenario, each of your units will receive a resup that is a certain percentage of that maximum supply level. This percentage resup is capped so that the units will not exceed their maximum supply level.Originally posted by Dutchguy

The maximum ammo level for an Airborne Light Battery is 496 HE rounds, or just 62 rounds per gun. I forget exactly but I think the Historical resupply percentage for Allied units is 30%. This means that at 3am your batteries will each receive 148 rounds of HE ammunition, or about 18 rounds per gun. If the battery already has more than 348 rounds of ammo, it will be topped up to 496 rounds but no more.
If your battery has fired its whole ammo complement during the day (pretty common) then the resupply will bring in just those 148 rounds, so you can see that pretty quickly you start to run low on ammo early in the day.

Now that the site is back online ...
Even though the URL from Mark should work and Dutchguy is likely to have the latest version (from CDV), I feel the need to remind everybody that the latest patches and the version history are available at (guess what ?
