Japanese Strategy

Post by generalfdog »

Let me start this by saying I am by no means a grand master of wpp but I have played enough to have some idea of what is going on, I am posting this as a way to start debate and give new players an idea of strategic options. I am covering option after Japan's hopefully initial success, of course you could do a combination of these strategies but given Japans limited resources some focus is needed.
Option #1 one of the best imho is the southern option which is capturing all of the Solomans and driving on to New Caledonia and Fiji this option requires naval superiority and a commitment of 3 to 4 snlf units 3-4 lba and probably 1-2 army units. With this strategy you capture no resources but the are 2 victory objectives and you are now in easy range of US convoy routes to Australia and New Zealand you also can interfere with reinforcements bound for Australia, the disadvantage of this strategy is that if the US comits large amounts of lba it can be dangerous for your navy.

Option #2 Australia and new Zealand. This ties in with the southern strategy and in fact success in that is almost mandatory before attempting this one, Invading Australia and or New Zealand can be fun and very rewarding but is difficult and risky. before attempting any invasion make sure you have taken the required pre supply required islands otherwise you will be out of supply, (for Australia you need Solmons and all of new guinea. Invading Australia is no small matter and will require most of your navy and a large land force 6+ armies so other operations in China and Burma will suffer, also the Australians are tough and will fight hard with their regulars as well as MANY partisans, the US will also send everything they can to help, so naval superiority is a must, (if you haven't sunk a few US carriers without losing more then 1 of yours i wouldn't even consider it) There are many ways to invade but my favorite is at Brisbane as you capture a large port and split Australian forces in half from there you can go north and south, coupled with a few other smaller invasions to the north and west should give you a good chance of subduing the country in under a year, of course holding it is another story but it will give to Allies alot longer road to Japan.
