Combat results when lots of attacks on hex

I can only see to about 10 attacks on one hex.

Any way of seeing the rest?

Press ' to cycle through the battles while in battle site mode.

Doesn't so many failed attack become counter productive as ORDER DELAY goes through the roof?

It depends. It is very beneficial as Soviets to do suicidal attacks against German units with doomed forces.
