PBEM reolays

Post by Goodenough »

Hello everybody

Long time single, hotseat and pbem player just wondering why we can't have replays available in pbem games?

The times I've finished a move and then want to peruse the map, research and production is innumerable.

Sometimes I'd just like to replay great turn!

Of course, bad turns, mistakes and errors should not be available to watch, but that should be my choice?

Great games, all of them!

Will post in all the forums.

You could try recording your turns...then you can review them later to contemplate things and make plans. I do this all the time. Primarily I do recordings for YT, but I did find great utility in reviewing my previous turn privately.
There are a few good free recording programs to be had. I personally use Nividia's GE Experience software. Its bare bones for editing, but it gets the job done. OBS is also great, but there is a bit of a learning curve. It does have great editing tools, but for just reviewing a PBEM or SP turn, GE Experience is perfect.
Also, recording turns is useful for finding things you may have missed, and I have found bugs or other anomalies occasionally that were easy to document.
These tools aren't 'ingame', but they work well for me and other folks I know who use them. 🙂

Thanks OldCrow

I enjoy your YT channel and have learnt a lot from viewing.

What you suggest makes sense but it would be easier if the game allowed an end of turn screen for perusal at your leisure.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try

Hi. Oh I agree that having an in game perusal would be grand. It's been mentioned on and off for years.
But given that it probably won't be implemented with the current game engine, recording is the way to go at the moment.
With a bit of practice, it's becomes routine.
Just remember that video files take lots of room on a computer, so it's best to delete them or compress them after you are finished with them.
If you were using the record method just to review your turn before your opponent returns his, I would dump them after a while.
Spectacular turns for prosperity sake you could store on an external hard drive.
Thanks for the compliments btw. 🙂

Well, I gave GE Experience a go and it works great.

It just won't allow me to poke about after the turn, graphs, unit stats etc.

But it's better than nothing, and thanks for the tips, much appreciated :)
