Completing games & rating system?

Post by kklemmick »

I'm going to take a minute to bitch a bit. I've started somewhere around 20 Warplan games and of those I've only successfully completed one. All the others have ended because my opponent resigns or stops playing. Most of the time without warning. Most of the time I don't get past '42, as I suspect the war in Russia bores a lot of people or something. But in any case it's extremely frustrating to put time and energy into a game only to have an opponent walk away.

So two questions here: Anyone out there want to start a game they commit to finishing? I suspect those on this forum are probably better at completing games. If so DM me or set up a mirror game with "ForKklemmick" in the name or something..

Second question: Have you thought about adding player stats in Warplan 2? Something simple like # of games started, # of games finished, # of wins/losses, # of times you resigned or stopped playing. Maybe even a rating system where other players can rate them as an opponent. It would be great to determine if your opponent is likely to complete a game or not before sinking time into the game.

Cheers,
Kevin

I am not perfect. Usually, I am using the chat box to tell my opponent he won when I want to resign. It is working quite fine.

Recently, and sorry stjeand, I was so upset against the naval engine that I have just stopped playing. But, I have finished my other last on going WPP game helping my opponent with many tips.

What you can tell yourself is that if your opponent resigns, you have won. But I agree it is frustrating when, as a Russian player, you start winning at the end of 1942 and your Axis opponent resigns because he didn't win.

The stats you want are on the server side. From my end I can't put that into the game as I have no control over the multiplayer server except uploading and downloading data.

What I can suggest is looking for people who have completed many games and challenge them.

From my years of experience playing World in Flames it is not uncommon for a game to be a blow out and finish early where one side resigns because they have no chance to win.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of players who don't want to do mirror games because they just want to push as the Germans and if they fail to achieve complete victory by '42 will just quit. I enjoy the defensive game as the allies, but the real fun for them comes later, and it's frustrating not to be able to play some of that out.

The only game I've completed so far I nearly resigned.. I'd lost all of the Middle East and all of mainland England, but I stuck around and ended up winning in the end. It's worth it to play it out, especially as the allies. But I have no problem with someone resigning if they let me know through chat first; I don't want people to play if they're not having fun.

ncc1701e, would you be up for a mirror match with me? Or are you already in to many games? ;-)

With pleasure, I have only one game remaining. Would like to try the new winter 1941 small fleet scenario but beware my holidays are starting soon. Don’t want to lose a game like last time if I am away more than one month.

On that topic, I thought I would mention the most frustrating one I had (this week): A game with at least a turn a day, even more, courteous small talk during turns etc.

Then no turns for a week, then opponent post new game on server and cancel our game the next day.... two turns before the game's end. I try not to judge usually as things happen in life, but this one was frustrating (to say it politely).

I have had many of those frustrations with a few players, but i guess i must have got lucky as lately everyone has been really fun and courteous, I would be glad to take a game if you need another opponent I always finish or let you know if I am giving up. And if it's not a blowout I enjoy a good last stand fighting to the end especially as the Axis

Hi,

Yes I would be interested to play as the allies the 1941 winter small fleet scenarios if it is ok with you. And I also do not disappear. If I feel the Allies (Soviets really) are too cripple to come back and it is obviously so, I would offer my resignation. I believe we never player together?

We had lately a superb mirror game, generalfdog and I, going until 1945.

I might start a new set of games with you generalfdog, if you're up for it. I'm in 7 games ATM, but 5 of these I'm pretty sure have simply been abandoned, and ncc1701e is on vacation now. ;-)
