Control of minors

Post by abulbulian »

Sorry if this is basic, but 1st time playing and I've gone over some YouTube tutorials but still having some confusion about controlling a minor. It seems that when another major power has a 'free state' minor that I conquer, I only get partial control (city)? But the Major powers 'free state' marker doesn't go away? I won the siege of the city in the previous turn. So can somebody please explain or point me to the rules section covering it? Would seem odd I would have to conquer the entire major power to gain control of their free states that I already took? Or does that major have to become insatiability or fiasco before they lose a free state that has been conquered by another major power?

thanks for any help

PS: really enjoying this game. not sure how I missed it when it came out decade+ ago, although I get all the benefits of a much more polished game with many more features now :)

ok, I read some more and found that maybe I just needed to select 'Accept Control' for these minors. I'm playing France so not sure why I wouldn't just select them all?

Also, I think if the owning Major Power goes into fiasco, then I would gain control if I had corps there and even if I had not taken the city?

ok, the next diplomacy phase that seemed to have given me (France) the conquered tag on the minors I expected. So it was the Accept Control area that I missed.

Still happy to have any advice from players on this content with controlling minors.
Thanks

Yes and no. The rule of thumb is that you conquer minors after a full turn of control, so that's what you got. The Accept Control checkboxes is for checking you to gain control of minors when they are declared on by others. You can double-click there to check off everyone, or manually select/de-select minors you do or do not want control of, or just not accept control of any minor. The game provides for a lot of options and nuance. Glad to see you figured it out and are enjoying the game.

As for being a much more polished game, yes it is in many ways. I am VERY close to wrapping up the next official patch, and the game is starting to shine!

Thanks. Yeah I saw there was a patch getting ready to go to Matrix. So maybe in Aug there will be more to be excited about. Game has a ton of replay-ability, so looking forward to more updates/QOL foo.
