Why is the "Landing ships reach target" bonus applied when they are destroyed?

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Why is the "Landing ships reach target" bonus applied when they are destroyed?

Defence against enemy invasion battle. Enemy reaches invasion zone with transports. Soon afterwards, I reach the landing point with my ships and sink all enemy transports while scattering the enemy fleet.
Why is the enemy still awarded the successful invasion points and ongoing invasion status? It is WAD but I don't understand the logic behind this.

They already dropped their payload of marines, ammunitions and cargo, like the USA at guadalcanal. It is too late... The japanese couter attacks were too late.

Okay, makes sense. I was thinking more about Normandy, where the landing troops would have been in a very bad position if their supporting fleet suddenly had been scattered.

Strongly contested landing (Normandy)->Troops would be dead soon and landing a failure
Barely contested landing (Guadalcanal)->Troops are fine even if supporting fleet disappears
But too complex to model ingame I guess.
