General Questions

Post by Dereck »

Campaign Game versus Axis AI at 110 moral

=== Airborne

Is it worth building airborne brigades? Except if I need to fill a line I'm tending to keep brigade level infantry units as support units.

=== Armor

Tank Brigades - definitely needed for Tank Corps

Tank Regiments - good use as support units

Separate Tank Battalions - are these [ever] worth building as support units?

=== Construction

Are the number of trucks in motorized sapper battalions worth disbanding them for and giving up the construction capacity? Between the motorized and nom-motorized i have a game limit of 238 but currently have 291 units. Not sure how many ar emotorized but I'm pretty sure any that I disband won't be able to be re-built as non-motorized now.

=== Infantry / Mech

Is cavalry considered mech or infantry (for officer assignments)?

=== General

What is the most valuable Soviet support unit?

What is the most useless Soviet support unit?
PO2 US Navy (1980-1986);
USS Midway CV-41 (1981-1984)
Whidbey Island, WA (1984-1986)

> Is it worth building airborne brigades?

Not really, get more divisions (starting in 42) if you end up with spare manpower

> Separate Tank Battalions - are these [ever] worth building as support units?

Well, not building, as you get a bunch of them as reinforcements. But they have their uses. Firstly, they are less demanding on the recon tanks (T-60/T-70), and you will never have enough of those tanks, unlike T-34s. Secondly, in mid-42 the regiments switch to a ToE without KVs, while the batallions keep using them. So you can still get use out of your KVs.

> Are the number of trucks in motorized sapper battalions worth disbanding them for and giving up the construction capacity?

Probably worth it. You will have enough digging capacity once you build the construction regiments and brigades. Or stash them in the Far East if you have enough trucks.

> Is cavalry considered mech or infantry (for officer assignments)?

Infantry, because it is classified as NON-MOTORIZED.

> What is the most valuable Soviet support unit? What is the most useless Soviet support unit?

Out of SUs that can go directly into units - rifle brigades are best. Worst is some random garbage like AT-rifle batallions.
Out of SUs that can only go into HQs - best are probably the largest artillery units (in caliber, like the 203mm/280mm guns, or number of guns, like howitzer brigades or cannon regiments). Worst - Katyusha batallions, probably. Not enough guns to make a difference.

Just remember every unit on the map is using supply and straining the logistics system.

So if you are not using support units, move them to a HQ where needed, or to a HQ sitting on a NSS, or to another theatre or disband them.
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

I store all SUs at STAVKA ... sitting on the Moscow NSS ... and assign them based on need.

I also send the most heavily damaged corps to the Moscow NSS. At one point I decided to move STAVKA one space to allow for three corps. I could swear I saw a much slower recovery time for the SUs. (Is that true?) Consequently, STAVKA always stays at Moscow NSS.

Rick
