Mixed Air-Air-SAM Combat

When air-to-air-to-air combat occurs within the range of one or mare SAM batteries of one or more hostile sides, does the SAM participate in the air-air combat or does SAM-Air combat occur separately and if so, when, before or after the air-air?

Whenever an air mission is launched, any ground-based anti-air in range will always engage it. Based on how the rest of the air mechanics work, I assume any fighters that make a successful intercept engage together with the rest of the anti-air, but I don't have experience with intercepts.
