USSR Declares War on Finland

Post by canuckgamer »

In our PBEM game it is May 8 1942 and the Germans have not yet declared war on the USSR. I know that the USSR can now declare war on Germany and or Finland. Under the War Panel Tab I see that Finland shows Germany in brackets. I assume this is just to indicate that it is aligned with the Axis or if I DOW Finland, does that automatically mean the USSR is also at war with Germany?

Yes, it would be like declaring war on Rumania for example since Finland is aligned with Germany since Spring 1941 (the German player could have already used those units since Spring 1941 against any enemy of Germany had he wished so).

To be honest, I do not even remember 100% if the option to declare war on a minor still exist once that minor has become aligned with a major power.

I am unable to attack any Finnish units unless the USSR DOWs Finland so the reverse is true. I was debating a DOW in case it triggers the activation of reserve armies. In any case the Russian production significantly increased this turn, May 8th.
