Reinforcing Withdrawing LCUs

Post by Honus »

Is there any reason to reinforce and/or upgrade Ground units which are going to withdraw before engaging in the Pacific war (i.e. is there a penalty if, for example--the US 75th Tank Battalion withdraws at less than full strength)?

No penalty. In fact, in most most cases it would be better if you didn't reinforce/upgrade them. Assuming they are a mostly rear area unit that will see no combat it saves devices in the pools for units that won't withdraw.

Actually, it does depend upon the units. As far as I know, the American units do not return anything.

However, the Australian units DO return the devices to their pools so it does make sense to upgrade them. If you do it properly and methodically, you won't have a lot of obsolete squads in your stockpiles while you wait for those squads to upgrade there. The same thing for some other units/devices for some other nationalities as well.

You are most welcome.

As a suggestion to start on doing the upgrades so you won't have a lot of obsolete squad devices in your stockpiles when your units are short of the latest and greatest devices ( ) just check in the database for what device upgrades to what device. Remember, if the unit is in a secondary guarding position and not attacking, it does not need the most up to date devices. So also be careful of upgrading devices such as the 18 pounder artillery pieces and the 2 pounder AA guns.

Also, a lot of the older USA AA guns, machine cannons, and machine guns went to the Chinese . . .

I wish that there was something in the database denoting the devices that are the same but have different upgrade paths . . .

There's a setting in the editor that lets you withdraw with or without devices. For the Ausies withdrawing units arn't laving the area, more of a disnandment. For the US they are likely withdrawing to to Europe.
