Engineers building more than 1 type of road

Post by GaryChildress »

In the New Dawn version, I believe you could only set one type of road for engineers to build. Is it possible in the Phoenix version to give engineers the capability to build more than one type. Specifically, I'd like to discern between railroad and regular road. Railroads would cost a small amount of Raw and more EP to build whereas regular roads would not cost Raw and would use fewer EPs. Is it possible now to use engineers to build more than one type of road?

I don't think what you want is feasible.

The road-type being built is governed by a rulevar, so you could in theory make a card that would change between the building of each. You could also make the roadtype cost more RAW that too is a rulevar. However, the cost in EP for building roads is determined by individual landscapes, and not a rulevar. So you'd have to make the cards change that too. Depending on the amount of landscapes, that can be quite a lot.

But this is me thinking outside the box.

Would be nice if the New Pheonix update would allow engineers to build more than one road type. Specifically, rail versus paved roads. It seems like creating a railroad (in theory accompanied by a paved road along side it) should expend more time and resources than simply building a road alone. It seems like it would create an interesting choice of how to utilize engineers. Rail would be able to transport greater loads at the expense of taking longer to unpack, prepare and organize what is transported.

I am sure it could be nice...

But here you need to think a bit about how the game is designed. It is so flexible, that you can have many more road types than just rail and road. So whatever mechanism you would need to switch between the different road types would have to take that into account. If not, then you could probably just say you could switch by pressing R or something like that, but with potentially 99 road types, that is not really feasible.
