cant scroll map down or right

Post by adek670 »

I can see plenty of scroll issues in the threads, but not one specifically related to windowed game scroll.

first install on this a new laptop which has a native resolution of 3072x1920.
I have created a shortcut to give the windowed mode and I can scroll map up and left with my mouser to the edge of my laptop screen. The mouse wont scroll the map down or right. cursor keys work ok, but they are small on this keyboard and not ideal.

Is anyone able to offer any advice please?

It's probably the game switches, See here https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... t#p5077564

I've tried variations of switches but both the down and right move fine with the cursor but not with the mouse.

Resolution switches vary the screen size and the others are either speeding up load times or making the game more responsive.

If you have a mouse with a ball in it, try cleaning the ball and the wheels that it touches.

Not a mouse problem because it is consistent on the direction it refuses to go.
IIRC the -dd_sw switch fixed that problem for me. But I also recall that laptops have real difficulty handing graphic movements because they only have a chip, not a whole graphics board. I think someone with a laptop said you needed to have the game in Windowed mode (i.e. not full screen).

Assigning the -cpu3 switch might also help - Windows likes to hog -cpu1 and other apps often use -cpu2.

To reduce the graphics burden on your laptop, do not run the game map with overlays like the F6 terrain overlay or with all the range circles etc. Every time you shift the map one hex the computer has to re-compute the screen image since the overlay changes are different for different hexes. You can turn on those overlays when you need to see them to make decisions and then turn them off again before the turn runs.

Thank you for the advice. I have tried the various options and the only think that works is to change to high DPI settings. I do this and the game is so small that it is unplayable. But I can scroll ok though.....

My laptop runs at 3072 x 1920 (recommended) and 200% scale recommended. There must be something within this that is just incompatible with the the software i think.

I cant run in full screen mode as i get an error on start. "cant set screen mode"

Have you tried installing the game and then using Seabee?

Scaling I think, read it somewhere. Set it to normal and use pxf/pxy setting in a window.

Scaling as controlled by windows...definitely high on the list to check. +1 :D

Still not completely resolved.
the only scaling on my laptop is 150% to enable scrolling across all axis., i can scroll, but the windows is now that bit smaller.

Nothing I do can but squint a little more.

anything else reverts me to up and left only.

i guess i trade off the scroll or the size

Here's a question for you Ade. What version of windows are you using, if it's windows? Also, I would try uninstalling the game and reinstall. Then use SeaBee....GP

You can use the Windows magnifier (Windows Key and + sign) to zoom the area under the cursor.
