Engineers

Post by James Malcolm »

As a newbie to the game (a convert from PacWar though) I would like to put my two cents worth on an aspect I believe missing.

Having served in an Engineer Brigade I know one of the engineer functions is enhancing mobility. Reading histories of the campaigns in the Pacific, I saw references to road building, notably the road between Dobadura and Buna, and the road between Lae and Nadzab. Also, reading through a history of the engineers in the Southwest Pacific, I saw where effort was expended on the road network in Australia as well as the coastal road in New Caledonia. I am still working on research to define what the appropriate build rate would be, i.e., trying to express it as x miles/engineer squad/day. x would definitely be a fraction of a mile.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

This idea has been put to the developers and shot down more than once. I am a big supporter of this. Not olny roads but rail roads. Mabe if you do the work we can give it another go.

It's kind of funny watching units dawdle up and down the Australian coastline.

Hey Matrix,we did have decent roads and motor cars as well as rail back in those days.
