Central Asia

Post by Tendraline »

There is something bothering me about the place, especially in the Russian Civil War scenario. In the current scenario is absolutely nothing interesting about the region except for connecting Guryev to the rail network.

Most notably (and most to my horror) the entire Aral Sea is missing (how?!), as well as the Amu Darya, the Amu Darya delta, the Fort-Shevchenko naval base (which the British attacked IRL on May 21, 1919), major cities like Ashgabat and Merv, and the entirety of the Emirate of Khiva. The region also suffers from a lack of other historical factions like the Alash Orda, the Tashkent Soviet, and the Turkestan Army.

In addition, the geography is off, being mostly steppe in the north and desert in the south (with exceptions being various oases and the the Amu Darya and Syr Darya floodplains). Confusingly, in game it is clear terrain interspersed with forest. In addition, the area around Shevchenko and the area between the Urals and Lake Ural is quite hilly and not particularly flat.

Honestly, this region is pretty disappointing considering how dynamic it was in real life. Not to say the rest of the campaign was bad, it is great, but if this region is more dynamic then it could make the Urals more dynamic as well.

(Sidenote about hills: The Donets ridge should also be hilly, it's quite important in the Russian Civil War scenario but it's flat here)

Central Asia would be nice to be added in, in the future.
It's one of my favorite areas of this vast conflict.
I believe a segment of the movie 'Reds' with Warren Beatty features a some scenes where he goes to Turkestan.

Those hills in Donbass are missing. Maybe a few could get added in in a future version.

This stuff you pointed out could get modded too.
