Nope. All corps are indivisible as are all divisions. It's pretty much standard in the SC game line that armies, corps, divisions can't be broken down into smaller echelon units.

This is why I treat those few Union regiments you get at the beginning of the game as gold. Good for garrisons. Too bad you can't build more.

Follow on to this topic .... units destroyed in combat can be purchased again at a reduced cost .... I can't remember if this applies to the brigades as well ?

Yes, you can buy back brigades that were destroyed at supply 5 or higher at a discount in MPPs and time. I think Partisans are the only land units that can't be.

It does not. In the ACW campaigns, units that have names (except HQs) can be rebuilt at a discount, those without names (eg Brigades) cannot.

The other campaigns (1870, 1904 and the five from the DLC) have their own rules, each of which is outlined in that campaign's respective strategy guide.

Bummer .... garrison duty at the division level seems like way overkill and a poor use of troops ....

You definitely want to prioritize the partisan locations that generate an actual combat unit. The ones with a factory symbol that cause a resource reduction are low priority in comparison and leaving them unoccupied is not a major concern if you're short on units.

Hence why it's so important to not squander those Union regiments that show up in the West....they will be handy in places like western Virginia to hold the local Rebel rabble down. 🥾

You can go with "Soft build" limit in game setup. It drops down the prefixed limits for unit builds (I think for brigades too).

Yes, but makes them really expensive.

Purchasing a soft over-limit Brigade is the same as a regular Division!

But along with everyone who have posted, I struggle with finding enough small-sized units even as the Conferates to properly garrison the ports beginning in 1862. As larger units become available, I make great efforts to withdraw my brigades from the front to redeploy along the coast - something that seems to put an artificial burden on my logistic infrastructure - not to mention requiring additonal MPP costs.

It's difficult but necessary. At the very least Tallahassee and Jacksonville should be covered, at least in an MP match as early as possible.
Yes, I wrote Tallahassee. A Union AVL'd unit can land and march right in and take that FS objective as easy as a Washington DC 'wife for a night', if you get my drift. 😁💃

I have been replaying the game recently and have had the Union AI land and take:
1. Galveston (even defended)
2. Jacksonville / Fernandina. :(
(historically, Lee did not feel this port city was defendable and repositioned cannon elsewhere...)
3. Norfolk. WTF?
4. Pensacola. (my fault for neglecting too long)
5. New Orleans (defended) OMFG!

I applaud the unpredictably of the AI, but at the same time feel that garrisoned port cities should require more effort take.
