Learning Questions

Post by Zovs »

Hope its okay to start a thread here and ask some dumb questions.

Currently I am both reading the manual, watching the tutorial video's, reading the picture and text tutorials, and doing the interactive tutorials.

With that said I am on the interactive tutorial:

Info 2: Pools: Production, Construction ... Lend Lease (Page 5 of 15)

And the commentary section says:

"You can select any power's force pool, and look at its build ahead options"

But I don't see any build ahead options? Unless all the units I see in the pools are build ahead options? Could use some clarification on this.

Secondly, from the Pools form, when I click on Help, I talks about a:

Future Force Pool

But I don't see this listed on the left. So is this an artifact of the interactive tutorial or am I missing something?

I am sure I may have more questions as time continues.

Thanks in advance.

As Germany, in 1939, I want to take a look at what units France gets added to their force pool next year (1940).

I open the pools form and go to;
1) Force Pools
2) Select France
3) Tick the box "Show next year's additions" - see bottom left corner of the picture
4) Think to myself that it would be bad if all those land units ever made it onto the map. :D

Did that answer your question?

Edit: Changed to the correct picture.

Yes, I think so, so "build ahead" is really "Show next year's additions". That makes perfect sense.

That is to simplify things a bit. When building units there are times when you can build units that have not yet entered the force pool. That is "Building ahead".

I never build ahead, although exceptions might occur sometime in the future. Edit: I know that some French players build 1941 units in 1940 and pay the extra cost for that. Never seen it in any of my games that I can recall.

I'll cut in part of the rule for building ahead below.

Cut from RAC (Rules as Coded)13.6.5 Building units :
....
Building ahead
If a particular type of unit (e.g., INF, NAV, CV etc.) is not available in any of your force pools, you can build
one or more randomly of that type from the following year's additions (see 4.1.1). Each unit built in this fashion costs its usual amount plus 50% of the unit's cost (minimum of 2 additional BPs), and takes 1 extra turn to build.
