How do you get more ocean % and rainfall during planet generation?

Post by LunarWolfTooth »

This is something that has bugging me for a while now. Unless I go with one of the pre-defined planet classes my generated worlds always have either very limited or no rainfall at all.

I've tried copying the higher (24+ hour) rotation speed for the higher winds that increase rainfall but it still averages between 0 and 200 mm of rain.

Also has anyone made a full steam guide on generating new planets and what each option does? I've watched some of the youtube videos on planet generation but they don't really tell you what affects what.

The manual gives some clue as what a number of planet caracteristics impact but it only explains so much.

Reroll the ocean % stage, that's about it.

There seems to be a window, or range of a given planet properties that can be had that depends on the planet class chosen. So if your looking for larger or smaller oceans you will need to change planet class type, and re-roll to get the desired result. Similar, a desert planet is going to have limited, but may have some rainfall (on the lower end of the scale.)

I do not know of a planet generation guide. When you create one, please copy to forums as I would like to know as well.

You can enable the debug menu find SE_Random 431 then mod export it and increase the maximum amount of water on a planet which will increase the amount of rain. I imagine heat + amount of water on the planet will increase the rainfall amounts. Some of the options don't seem to do anything(like max gravity). Just go to the S&S editor in the game and import csv, rename the mod and save(and of course edit it).

You will need to enable the mod(which might require a reload) then reload and start a new save, any changes to mods during gameplay will only effect a new game. Also it will probably break during each major patch if there are changes or new planets added, it's easy to notice when the game crashes  . But it's pretty easy to patch it every major patch.
