[FIXED] US Air Launched ASW Weapons Damage

Post by Illiteratereader »

US air launched ASW Weapons (HAAWC, Mk54LHT, etc.) does insignificant damage compared to air launched alternatives from other countries. Is this expected behavior?

I've set up ASW missions each using different weapons in the scenario to demonstrate.

Command Version: 1328.12

Thanks

for one thing, without looking at the scenario, the db and real world data shows Russian air-dropped torps have a warhead over twice the size of US torps.

2023/01/18 0:22:03 - Torpedo Mk54 LHT Mod 0 #1078 is attacking PLARB-955A [Borey II] with a base PH of 85%. Final PH: 85%. Result: 54 - HIT

2023/01/18 0:22:03 - Weapon: Mk54 LHT Mod 0 #1078 has impacted PLARB-955A [Borey II].

2023/01/18 0:22:03 - 15% penetration achieved

2023/01/18 0:22:03 - [Red] PLARB-955A [Borey II] has suffered weapon damage: 7 DPs
US Mk46/50/54 have exceptionally low penetration performance, causing less damage.

Attached test scenario variant which rolled back to DB3K v490. Note although not one-hit kill, Mk50 will achieve ~80% damage.

That's an interesting case; thanks for the heads up.

The reduced shock-damage applied by these torps is actually WAD; these torps have a shaped-charge warhead as they are optimized for ASW rather than dual-use. The shaped charge warhead virtually guarantees a penetrating hit if it impacts, at the cost of much reduced shock damage. The upside is that the penetration will immediately cause flooding and possibly also fire damage.

There was a bug in the flooding evaluation code which severely reduced the chance of flooding when such an ASW-optimized warhead impacted; this has been now fixed for the next update. We also found a couple other issues related to fire & flood damage and we'll be fixing those as well.

Thanks.
