Re: slow server?
Yes sometimes we thought the game had hanged and we had to reload, other times it just took a long time but it finally worked.

Re: slow server?
Was just about to write a post about whether others have had problems with slow play in late game global scenarios but saw yours. Me and Furbet are in Jul/Aug 43 and the game has become hardly playable recently - 40 seconds or more to move a land unit. Would you happen to know if the server struggles in these later years?

Re: slow server?
There were three blocks of street lights not operating on a main drag in my city. Everyone complained about it. Finally someone actually reported it to 311. A couple days later they were working again.
Is there a moral to this story?

Re: slow server?
Nope.
I don't think Matrix customer support people read every message in every forum.

Indeed! it's time for an official ticket... or at least, an official query
Re: slow server?
We're currently looking at a range of options to help address server issues.
Re: slow server?
Hey everyone. Today we implemented a fix that should resolve some of the slowness users have been experiencing. The best way to see if games are working more quickly and smoothly for you is to start new games or load up in-progress games.
If you're still experiencing server slowness during your games, please let us know.

Re: slow server?
We are playing now for the first time after the patch, and for now it works like a charm. I hope this much faster response will also solve some problems probably due to bad synchro.
Will update after we end.

Re: slow server?
Our experience relating to playing inside the forum yesterday changed from a 2-4 depending of the day to a 10.
No synch problems and loading and phases went as fast as they were supposed to go. There were also no problems of those that may or might be related to synchronization.
Thanks and congratulations.

Re: slow server?
Just tried to play my Global War game with Furbet (late '43) after taking a break for a few months. Still encountering enormous delays moving land units. Saw a suggestion about loading patch 7.0.0 which we did and then tried removing the optional rule on isolated units which someone else mentioned. Hasn't help sadly.
We assume the problem relates to supply calculation and the large number of units at this stage of the war. Are any of you playing late '43 global war and enjoying trouble free land movement?
Any other tips re optional rules that should be avoided/disabled?

Re: slow server?
Well I'm deep into my game on Turn 34, Mar/Apr 1945. And I've got a workaround that working really well for me and allowing my game to proceed normally. However; not sure how well it will work for netplay.
I started experiencing the issue you're hitting (moving units is excruciating slow) maybe 3 or 4 turn ago. I'm playing the latest (actually pass the latest as I'm a beta tester).
This is my workaround. As soon as I hit rail movement phase I retrograde my game file back to version 3.2.0 and run that version all the way through land combat resolution, after which I upgrade back to the latest version.
I have no idea how well neplay will work with this as I don't know if significant netplay but fixes are in place post 3.2.0.
Also, if you do this, be aware that your discretionary trade agreements will get a bit messed up. So, I "make" a copy of those trade agreements at the start of the turn and paste them back over into my game file at the end of turn.
While this workaround may sound, and probably is a bit kluge, my land moves are lightening fast with 3.2.0 compared to the latest version.
And I'm able to play my game without pulling my hair out waiting for response when I pick up a land unit to move it.

Re: slow server?
Last week there were no delays regarding the netplay server. However, in the past this did happen and it got solved after Matrix checked the server. So I suggest to make a ticket for this at Matrix, so they can look at it. It is not a problem with the game itself in the past.FonjoFarley wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:17 pm Just tried to play my Global War game with Furbet (late '43) after taking a break for a few months. The Isolation optional rule is always slowing things down a lot (not only on netplay games, but on solitair games too). So I would suggest not the use that one (or turn it on during the end of turn phases and off again before the placement of reïnforcements. MWIF unfortunately needs a lot of calculation power for that rule to be continually on during the game).

Re: slow server?
(1) I'm definitely experiencing a significant slowdown in my game that isn't due to the isolated reorg.Centuur wrote: Sun Jul 28, 2024 10:28 amLast week there were no delays regarding the netplay server. (2) I'm playing that optional but only enable at the end of the turn and then disable it after final reorg.
(3) I'm also having an issue with a regression bug (supply) on which I've posted a bug report in the beta section.
(4) The regression bug is that units are often showing as out of supply when they can trace a secondary supply route to a cooperation allied HQ that can trace back to a primary supply for that unit.
(5) That bug is not there in 3.2.0 but does appear as early as version 4.4.1.0.
(6) So I'm toggling between the latest beta and 3.2.0 as I described in my previous post.
(7) I do think I'm getting the best of both worlds included additional optional rules such as isolated reorg, V-weapons, atomic bombs, Kamikazes.
(8) With the latest version it often takes 30 seconds or more when I pick up a unit to be able to place it.
(9) That's unplayable!
(10) However; when I make rail and land moves with the same game file in 3.2.0 the pickup and placement feel instantaneous.
(11) I'm not sure what changed to cause the slowdown but it happen 2, 3 or maybe 4 turns ago.

Re: slow server?
A belated thank you for those ideas and feedback.
I suspect my opponent and I will take some more time out and keep an eye on the forums. I can't see us switching game versions periodically. I'll find some way to screw that up! Damn shame as it's a fabulous game
