Question about air strike effect

Post by kutaycosar »

Do airstrikes on enemy units have a slowing-down effect? In other words, is it possible to use airstrikes effectively to hinder the movement of the enemy, rather than aiming solely for maximum damage, similar to real-life scenarios? Additionally, are the wreckage and debris from destroyed armored units modeled, and are their effects on traffic represented?

Wrecks and traffic are modeled and do slow down or cause the enemy to path around the wrecks. Depending on the orders and state of enemy units, an airstrike may force them to drop to a screen, withdraw, and replan movements to an objective.

If your aircraft have cluster bombs, dropping these on a hex will leave behind UXO (unexploded ordnance), effectively a very light minefield, which will slow down units passing through that hex (yours, and the enemy).

However, you as ground forces commander, don't have precise control over what the fly boys will do. You can call them in, but they have a mind of their own (or even get bumped or shot down by hostile air prior to delivering their ordnance). Also similar to real life...

does it mean you can't order them to attack with cluster bombs?

Strike aircraft will attack targets and use the weapons they have equipped. You cannot select what munitions they will use.
