SP Flak - Substitution and usage in Infantry Divisions

Post by Wiedrock »

As you can see the SP Flak is produced in too low numbers to fill out all the Divisions.
There are more than 50% of what ever been produced missing.
Meanwhile there are 2 things which could be done to circumvent this.
1. Set "Light Flak" as a Substitution
2. stop adding SP Flak to Infantry Divisions and use normal Flak instead.

German nomenclature:
Mot S = Self-propelled
Mot Z = towed, gun with its own tractor vehicle

Maybe we'd need a new truck-based 20mm Flak just for these units. With the Luftwaffe alsmost gone the army was desperately trying to provide more light flak to units often mounted on trucks. Those should be far faster be able to get into firing mode than a standard towed version.

I don't know why it would reqire an additional Element. Just take a PaK40 Ground element and compare it with all the Flak Elements, they all have the same Fuel use. PaK40 (afaik) were 100% motorized (towed), so the Flak Elements we have are exactly the same, towed (like 99%) by vehicles.
If you mean some more "makeshift" truck mounted AA,.....I guess there was lots of maeshift solutions but the vast part should already somewhat be represented in the SP AA Production numbers.
But as said, the Mot Z in this TOE is just a basic "static" AA which is towed by a vehicle, not mounted on a truck.

Here something for you. I've encountered the "Drilling" mounted on Trucks in a KSTN/TOE for a 44 Panzer Brigade.
Here you can see some pics of them being mounted on Trucks/Lorries.
And attached the Panzer Brigade Gliederung.
I've seen several "collumn-AAs" especially for the 44+ TOEs.Seems like that's makeshift solutions (similar to Soviets mounting Dshk or Quad Maxim on normal trucks. I know there were also MG34/42 being used mounted on Trucks, already in the earlier years too.

But for the sake ofthe game as I already stated you could also just use the "normal" Flak/Drilling (non SP/non armored) imo.

Most of these vehicles images bear a WL license plate so are part of Luftwaffe.
Those are more likely be part of airbase protection units.

Used in KStN 1150d (15.08.1942 - behelfs KStN) as and alternative Flak setup.
