Long delay

Post by Orm »

Version 1.06.80

After a couple of turns in a new '43 campaign as Germany I suddenly got very long delay times for my interceptors. Thought it a bug and took the first screenshot. Restarted the turn and got pretty much the same result. Re-loaded again and changed the reaction ranges to no avail (pic two and three). I find it interesting the aircraft based at Gladbach seems to have normal delay.

EDIT:
Did this happened around turn 7? I think it has something to do with the LW Headquarters. I'm on it.

Now that you mention LW HQ I remember that Allies tried to bomb Paris but all groups didn't find the target, and that several groups on the way back bombed the LW HQ as a target of opportunity.

Well that's it then. Luftflotte 3 HQ coms are a shambles and apparently this is what happens. I have never seen this before. So... the HQ's can't be targeted but the AI found a loophole in the target of opportunity routine. If you have a save before this happens it is likely that the HQ won't get targeted each time.

Otherwise it looks like the HQ is repairing itself each day but it will be a week or 2 before LUFT3 is back up to snuff.

I'll fix this for the next patch. Or should I? There is something to be said about this type of random calamity. Right now this could happen even with an Allied human player. Bug or Feature? What say you?

Hi.
As a regular LW player of over 20 years I've never seen this happen to this extent. I can only recall one HQ being attacked as a target of opportunity and the damage was minimal.
I think this needs to stay in, the chances are there in real life.
And Allied commands would attack a major HQ given the chance.

Bug.

Any command centre would have contingency plans to get back online if their communications broke down. And they would use alternative communication routes. Sure, there might be some confusion. For a few hours. A day later the auxiliary communications would be acceptable. And a new command post up. And, if not, then local command would take over. The result that if the main HQ is not reachable is that all the personnel, including pilots, on the air bases are asleep when the Allied air bombs them is ridiculous.

That the delay would be longer is acceptable. But that it would be over an over is bonkers. Shortest response time might change from 4 minutes to 8 or so. Remember that the German radar, and radio listening still works. They just have to send those reports on alternate routes.

Also. If bombing the HQ was a feature this strong then it would be permanently bombed. And if the HQ can not be targeted normally then it is a bug. In my humble opinion.

If bombing HQs becomes a feature, then adding the possibility for the HQs to be moved by the player should be added as well. Also the ability to add AA to the HQs defence.

And, as stated above, the affect of a disrupted HQ needs to be way reduced.
