Another issue! SC Classic WWII editor oddity

Post by CaesarAug »

Well, one pending issue that I haven’t been able to correct is the game editor for SC Classic World War II: opening a scenario from any of the three sub-mods (Pacific Theatre, Patton Drives East, Weapons and Warfare), the map is mainly all white, with units and other land features partially hidden. Very odd since it appears to only affect this particular game, not the other two SC Classic games…

Any way to correct this? Thanks again!

Sounds like the transparency key is not working properly for this one game, e.g. the parts of the bitmaps that should not display, are displaying and therefore looking like a lot of white on the map.

You can try updating the video card drivers on your PC to see if that helps, and you can try perhaps adjusting the 'Compatibility Mode' for the game by right clicking on the EXE or Desktop Shortcut for the game and selecting 'Properties' and then the 'Compatibility Tab' and experimenting with some of the settings to see if it will run better.

e.g. try running the game to be compatible with Windows Vista, or XP etc.

Thanks, Hubert. I know my Windows 11 Pro video drivers (Intel Iris Xe) are up-to-date. I had already given compatibility with Windows 7, but that wasn’t working. As soon as I can, I’ll try other compatibility parameters, including Windows Vista and Windows XP, and report back here.

Well, I’ve tried various compatibility parameters, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and different other combinations with other compatibility parameters, nothing works. Very strange that this issue only affects SC Classic WWII and not the other two SC Classic games.

It’s not that big of an issue, though, since if I need to use the editor for this particular game, a workaround I can use is that it does work normally on a Parallels Desktop 19 for Mac Windows 7 virtual machine. I can edit on this platform and just transfer the edits to my Windows 11 Pro version. So it’s a question of searching for some kind of fix for my Windows 11 Pro, if there is one.

That's a very creative workaround, hopefully this works well enough until a solution to Windows 11 works out if eventually there.

Thanks for the update,
Hubert
