AI Control Of My Divisions

Is there any way to prevent the AI from arbitrarily taking control of my ships? I have had repeated problems trying to steer my divisions away from oncoming ships, having the check mark for AI control of my ships hazed out so I can't take control, watching my ships kamikazee into an oncoming fleet, resulting in the sinking of my ships uselessly. Also, if I have a battleship division in the group, even though I have the marker flag highlighted and have been giving repeated commands to the BBs, the AI takes control of that division and I can't regain control because, hereagain, the checkbox for AI control is hazed out.

Captain's mode gives you full control of your ships most of the time.

Admiral's mode gives you control of your ships in communications range of your lead Division

Rear Admiral's mode gives you control over the lead Division only.

This can be adjusted in the Settings menu.

WLRoo is right, but if you mean your already controlled division got taken over by AI, it's intended to be that way to represent miscommunication, signal error, etc. It will have a random duration, sometimes it's short couple minutes, sometimes it takes hours before you can take control back. With more "Fleet Tactics" technology unlocked, it will reduce the chance it's happening and the duration (not sure about the duration, cmiiw). So no, you can't prevent it, and the only solution I know, unfortunately you need to check every few minutes/hours (in game time) to see if the "miscommunication" already over, by that time the checkbox will be clickable again. (If only by the time it end it automatically return control to player, a function that would be nice to have )
