Ship design: superimposed triples before A and Y triples

Post by mrchuck »

The ship designer is pretty good but the way triple turrets are handled seems a little weird.

The game usually lets you build ships with B and X triple before you can do this with A and Y.

Isn't this backwards? Andrea Dorias, Nevadas both had A and Y triple, B and X double.

I'm not sure you'd be able to design a KGV either with A and Y quads but I haven't tried.

A number of warships were built this way, historically.

The Devs have ascribed this to the hull volume required to fit TPS - A and Y positions are too constrained by the TPS to also fit in a barbette capable of supporting a triple turret.

You can build ships with triple turrets in A and Y, but at the cost of having no (or very limited) TPS - or they have to be very slow.
