First day Air Strategy dilemma

Post by shgenerolas »

Hi! I'm about to start my first grand campaign (vs. human) and have a few questions regarding Air War and Theater Boxes.

1) Which method is more effective to destroy soviet planes on the first day: marking a larger area for ground attacks or marking each airport as a separate directive? Is there one right answer to this question? I made several tests (for example I first set the Air Superiority directive in certain places, for example over Lithuania, and then put together the Ground Attack directives for the first day), but I got the impression that the results are determined not so much by the chosen attack method, but by the calculation generated at the time.

2) Is it true that the order in which Air Directives are placed affects the chronology of actions? If I set the Air Superiority directive first and then the Ground Attacks on the same day, can I expect the Soviet fighters to be destroyed by the time my bombers take to the air?

3) Maybe someone on the Forum or Youtube found good tips on how to take care of Theater Boxes? Please share if you have seen something similar.

Thanks guys!

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6#p5110196, This will give you a good Idea. though it might not be up to date and you might have to make adjustments. Still got good results when I used it last October

1. There are a limited number of AD you can make (about 50 IIRC) so you will be hard pressed to target all airfields individually. If you do very large target boxes, you risk flying excessive air time or unescorted and you cannot determine the order in which the selected airfields are attacked. Be aware that at start recon is imperfect.

What seems to work best is heavily escorted AD to destroy Soviet fighters first, then less escorted AD to destroy other types, particularly recon aircraft. The downside, I believe, is that aircraft destroyed on the ground leave their relatively high experienced pilots alive to fly again. Much practice makes better, if never perfect.

2. I believe AD are resolved sequentially but within a priority hierarchy- all Very High before Normal, all Normal before Low etc etc
