Ninh Binh

Post by Michielson »

I’ll post short AAR’s of this 5 day battle here.

Ninh Binh day 1, playing as French
Arty support saved the day, major victory.
Side A OP: 475, side B: 0
Side A SP loss: 6, point loss 20
Side B SP loss: 71, point loss 205
Total points -660, side B major defeat
———
Ninh Binh day 2, playing as French (although best played as the Viet Minh)
Foggy conditions, obj: Hold the fort and South edge of the battlefield until reinforcements arrive.
After the long day 1 battle, this fight went relatively easy.
After a regroup, concentrating our strongest squads around the main objectives, we won a major victory.
The 5-bty arty support was of major importance and combined with the LC MG’s made the difference.
On to day 3, where reinforcements will hopefully arrive before a counterattack.

Battle details:
Side A SP loss: 1 / point loss 3
Side B SP loss: 7 / point loss 21
OP’s: A: 200 / B: 200
TP: -18, side B major defeat

Day 3 battle is moving on…
After turn 9 the Southern Objective is captured.
Heavy fighting is commencing for the Northern obj right now.
There’s still remnants of enemy platoons harrassing our troops moving up North.
Bitter fight..

The day 3 battle has ended.
Despite capturing the Southern objective in turn 9, advancing North with most of the troops and keeping pressure on the Northern objective with constant heavy arty fire, we concluded the day with a major defeat.
Capturing the second objective is clearly paramount in winning this fight. Despite numerous assaults in turns 11-15 this did not work.
Battle day stats:
Side A SP losses: 31 / 93 points
Side B SP losses: 45 / 137 points
Side A OP: 500 / Side B: 400
Total points 144, major defeat

On to day 4…

Day 4:
Heavy fighting, delaying attacks from the West, resulted in heavy casualties.
We were unable to reach and make contact with friendly forces near Ninh Binh in the NW.
Despite the enemy attacks we kept our 3 objectives secure.
Result: Major victory

Day stats:
Side A SP losses: 40 / 142 points
Side B SP losses: 24 / 63 points
Side A OP: 700, B: 0
Total points -621, side B major defeat

Day 5:
15-turn battle.
Holding on to all 3 objectives, we managed to gain a major victory.
Losses are high, but the line was secure.
Around turn 9 we took the heaviest casualties, when the enemy launched a large scale assault on our positions.
Combined arty, MG and light arms fire repelled the attacks and the enemy started to retreat in the last few turns.

Stats:
Side A SP losses: 25 / point loss: 82
Side B SP losses: 78 / point loss: 221
Obj points: A: 600 / B: 0
Total points: -739, Side B major defeat

That concludes this 5-day battle.
Players who look for a not too complex, but challenging scenario, centered around a few main defensive positions, will like this one.
