resupply air bases

New players here, searched the manual but didn't find this specific game choice mentioned. I'm familiar with and somewhat understand how to use the Depots, Rail System, and Priority to move supply to my units, and I thought that included air bases and AOGs.

But then, when right-clicking on the Luflotte 1 icon that sort of hovers over the map, I see "resupply air bases". I can sort of guess what it does but why is it a separate thing from the normal overall supply system and what exactly does it do?

Air bases get supplied during the logistics phase and normally you don't need to do this. However, sometimes it's possible that you fly a lot of missions from some bases, and they run low on supply. When this happens, you can resupply them manually, if you have enough trucks in the pool and some freight in nearby depots.
