Inadvertent waypoint setting

Post by Shunwei »

Hi all long time player here, but ran into something first time not sure how to solve it. Somewhere along the way of my current campaign the task forces setting all of a sudden became to set waypoints and I can no longer direct task forces to a direct destination. I have never used or know how to use waypoints either. Anyone can point the way to remove this waypoint setting and have it go back to the original direct destination mode?

I have never had that happen. Without a picture I can only guess but are the task forces computer controlled? If nothing else, save the game then exit the game and reload a save.

Do you have the routing set to safest and not direct?

The task forces are always set to direct usually, and i checked everything. And this is for all task forces. Whenever i set a direct destination it would just say ‘waypoint #1 set’ but there would be no motion or movement made during the execution phase, everything would stay still. Task forces can still be made to go back home point if i use the prompt at the bottom. First time i have seen this and i am perplexed.

I also did reload a save but this problem seems baked in. I took a look in the options nothing seems to be relevant to the this. Also no the task forces are not set to computer, and this is a global problem that affects all task forces, not just particular ones. So i am thinking of some setting issue but can’t find any. Been playing this game since it came out and never something like this.

I usually use direct - normal threat tolerance. When I run into such issues, the first thing I do is clear the destination and start over again with the task force. If you have a save, I would post it in the issues area.

If it’s global, you might be having some sort of computer issue…. Have you tried rebooting your computer and running the game without anything else running on your computer?

I will give that a try, it is a global issue not a particular one and in the task force directions menu there is nothing i see that is abnormal. Been playing this game for pretty much since it came out never seen this one. Could be a computer issue since my laptop is on its way out. I don’t see how it would be linked however other than a weird technical glitch. How do i post a saved game?

Compress it as .zip-file. Then you can attach it in post in Tech Forum. Probably can also here, this main forum allows max 1MB files, Tech one max10 MB. But better post to Tech forum if it's a tech issue.

The main game file may be corrupted. Consider downloading the base game and patch you are playing, install them in a new directory, then copy your saved games to that new installation.

It could be a corrupted game file. Sadly, it happens.

From a fresh boot, start a NEW scen 1 game. Confirm that it the error NOT present. This confirms that your install is good. If you do see the error, you need to re-install the game. If no error, continue.

Now, load the game save in question. If the waypoint error still shows, the game file is corrupted. Go back 5 days (or so) in saves. Open and test. Continue this until you get to a save where the waypoint issue is NOT present. This establishes where the corrupted started. You can play from this point on and you should be good.

Yes, I've had a fair amount of this type of experience through the years. This recovery method generally works for me. This is an issue far more common for AI players as opposed to PBEM players as AI players can/will run several turns between boots. I have a personal requirement to reboot in between each turn to prevent this type of failure. Its a pain, but this type of error is a bigger pain.
