Playing as the Ackdarians, I’ve acquired from the Haakonish, through intelligence missions, the tech Compressed Fuel Storage, which gives me access to the Mega-Density Fuel Cell component. Which is superior to the standard Fuel Cell v2 component, as this screenshot attests:

Yet, when using the Upgrade button from the Designs window, to upgrade one of my designs that already includes Mega-Density Fuel Cells, they’re replace with the inferior Fuel Cells v2.
To reproduce the problem:
* Go into Designs, and make sure the current filter is Active Buildable Designs.
* Select the only active Frigate design: FRG-FLT Osprey IV.
* Open it and notice that it’s currently using Mega-Density Fuel Cells.
* Close the ship designer window
* With the Frigate design still selected in the *Designs* window, click on the Upgrade button
* Notice that the Mega-Density Fuel Cells have been replaced with Fuel Cells v2.
