[1.26d] Oddity With Truck Logistics

Post by mroyer »

Is this a bug? I can't figure any reason for it.

The first image below shows projected rail and highlighted truck logistic points emanating from Buranstone. The selected hex is a rail head hex. 200 truck logistic points (LP) are projected to reach that hex (top number) combining with rail LP for a total of 1817 LP. The next hex to the northeast is projected to receive 119 truck LP, yet only has a total LP projection of 4. Similarly, the hex to the south is projected to receive 77 truck LP for a total of just 3 LP.

I can't find any reason that the total LP projection should be less than the truck LP projection. It seems to me that the bottom total LP number should always be equal to or greater than the top LP number. Indeed, this projection of only 4 LP is what actually happens in the next turn.

I've added the second image which is the log of LP at the selected hex in case it illuminates any subtilty I've missed.

I will forward the relevant save-file to Vic.

Yes this is not perfect. I should look into this when i find the time and focus on logistics in the future. Made note. The reason is the calculations for the single asset change when they are done out of context of the other assets efforts.

Below is more evidence - by coincidence I put this together before I saw your response. This issue has been crushing my logistics rail net efficiency all game; I'm the only one on the planet with rails (that I am aware of) and my human foes are dominating with dirt roads :shock: as I toil with logistics problems.

=========================
Anyhow (reference the image below):

The rail station at Cyber Falls (hex 94.2) is producing 2720 LP. The highlighted purple preview line shows those 2720 all being received in Wetterhorn, one hex to the south.

The preview log for the Wetterhorn hex for the Cyber Falls rail LP source shows those LP in two chunks, 2448 + 272 => 2720. Both chunks refocused: 2448 * 0.98 * 0.75 => 1799 LP and 272 * 0.98 * 0.75 => 200 LP.

However, LP from the Cyber Falls hex sent to the south-east and south-west is only 100 LP in each direction (if we believe the log) and 119 south-west/81 south-east if we believe the purple highlighted line. Either way, only the 200 LP chunk is sent onwards, and the bigger 1799LP chunk is lost.

(These numbers are identical for the current turn and the preview - I only show the preview because it has nice purple breakout by LP source.)

I believe this is a bug – I can’t figure any reason for it.

Save and global clear all signs just to see - still the same result?

Great suggestion! Although, in the fashion of most scientific inquiry the experimental result raises more questions than it answers.

Instead of deleting all traffic signs, I found an old one 6 hexes down the rail to the southeast. It predated the rail line and was blocking all traffic to the northwest as shown in the red arrow in the following image. I unchecked rail LP from that remote traffic sign, and voila, the logistics impediments in Wetterhorn (hex 92,3) disappeared and the additional log entry showed up for the Wetterhorn hex (second image below encased in red rectangle).

I have no explanation for why that remote traffic sign makes any difference to the rail refocussing and distribution in Wetterhorn.

Results are results i guess lol - if I start seeing weird things in my logistics it's my go-to solution to see if It clears it. It's a pain to have to re-do all the signs after, but it's doesn't happen too often
