Topup button should be active, but isn’t (#2)

In July 2023, I’ve posted a report on this problem (link below). It still occuring. A fleet contains at least one ship that shouldn’t be there, given the fleet’s template. Yet, the Topup button is deactivated when the fleet is selected.

Here’s a screenshot of the DF Kharinthuth fleet selection panel, with the tooltip for the last ship at the bottom right, which is an escort:

The fleet uses the “Big Defend” template, which doesn’t include any escort (see screnshot below). Yet, the Topup button is deactivated, despite the settings of the template being set in a way that should indicate a problem with that fleet composition:

Have a look at reserved money. And if funding levels ship maintenance is high enough.

Do you have a save from before you noticed the escort joined the fleet?

If I understand correctly, the “Trim Excess Ships” button in fleet templates, when enabled, should results, if the fleet has more ships than its template specify, in some ships being taken out of the fleet when pressing the topup button.

If I’m wrong, please let me know. For now, I’ll presume this is the case.
I believe Trim Excess Ships is part of the automation setting "Fleet Ship Management" 's function, and when manual fleet ship management is selected, Trim Excess Ships does nothing, as you've observed.

That's not a top up button is it? Or am I misunderstanding its function. I would like a real top up button where military fleets automatically top up (build ships) when depleted for manual and auto fleets. Or is there one already somewhere else?
