Games in progress - fixing AC loadouts- and ship upgrades

Post by Cavalry Corp »

Question boys.

Can these things be changed mid-game?

Someone said that if you delete and re-input data on a new line( aircraft weapons and bombs) , it will change, and it will work for games underway. Is that true?

Its only two minor fixes I want to do. It seems that changing data on a plane loadout does not fix for started games from what I can see, but I did use the same lines or just deleted data. Will it work if I input then new data on a new line - any help is welcome.

Another question: can a new upgrade path for a ship be added if the ship is not already in play?

AC Load-outs: you can make the change and you will see it ... BUT, I have found that you will often see some squirrely results in the game. i.e. certain units may not function properly, like TB's my not drop bombs from CV's or DB's may act only as LB's ... So user beware.

Upgrade path: so if the class already exists and you to allow some other class to go there as well, I think it will work. BUT, I am pretty sure you CANNOT ADD new classes. they simply will not show up.

I've always believed you cannot edit a game in progress. Reading this it looks as if you can. How is it done if correct? What about PBEM games?

It'll warn if save is edited.

He might be referring to this warning. If the scenario being played has been edited recently in any way you'll get a notice like this when you see the load screen letting you know that database changes have been made in an ongoing game possibly with or without your knowledge. However, this only occurs with custom scenarios or mods as all the standard scenarios that ship with the game (slots 1 to 23) can't be overwritten with edits.

In a user-designed campaign you can make some really powerful edits to a game in progress like advancing the date when late-war aircraft are available, how many planes you receive in a month or editing the effects of bombs and weapons. But this Y/N message let's any human opponent know that something fishy might be going on. Of course, an AI opponent won't care that you suddenly have jet aircraft in 1942.

That's what I did mean.

And as said, official scenarios cannot be edited.

So official scenarios cannot be edited full stop. Unofficial scenarios can. This I knew.

Saved games using unofficial scenarios can by edited but through the scenario associated with it but somethings cannot be changed.

Well...one can copy official scenario to slot 24 and upwards. Then it can be edited.

Yeh I know. Thanks. Think you know things in this game and you get surprised, often.

If you are a scenario builder, you learn a lot of about what you can change after game start and what you can't as you debug your scenario. I've been tweaking my scenario for over 10 years ...
