suggestion: global team folders

Post by customer717 »

Teams seemed to be locked into a slot of A - D. My problem is, I have 4 buddies that want to play vs the AI using teams. Not all at once, but different different combinations of us depending on who is around.

The problem being how can we use our squads if they are locked into certain slots? Say 2 of us make team As and the other two make team Cs. However, then if the two buddys who have team A are online, they can not use their teams to play as they use the same slot.

Would it be possible to just make teams a global thing that can be put in any of the 4 slots when starting a game? That is a team B would not HAVE to be in B's slot, but could go in D's or whatever?

Also, could there be an easier way to use other people's team other than copying the file over and putting it in the proper folder? It seems like you can only use team on the host machine which is inconvenient when my friend in another state wants to use the team that is on his computer.

Sorry if this stuff is already implemented. If it is, could you please tell me how to do it?

Again, thank you.

I'm not quite sure I understand the query, but, assuming that I do, in 1.4 (the freeware game), your teams are in the \data folder, labelled team1 ... 4. It's probably the same in WS. For a start, it's worth copying your team to a backup folder before a fight ...
The game will always play team1 (and team3, if it's being used) against team2 (and team4, similarly) ... but, if you have a team on your machine as team1 and you want to play it against someone else's team1, either of them can be renamed (with Explorer) to team2 and moved to the host's computer.

.. and, as far as I know, WS is the same as 1.4 in that players on a LAN or over the internet must send their teams to the host before the game is set up (either the players should rename the teams to the correct team numbers, or the host can rename them before putting them into the data folder).
