Game after game I have had my subs in this same hex with enemy fleets and never have I ever seen a sub attack. Surely this is a bug??? Anyone else noticed this???

I know you sent me our last turn but I also contracted the "wormblaster" virus and lost everything. could you re-send it please.

It can depend upon the particular commander of a given sub. Put a different sub in there.

This couldn't be related to the Japanese submarine doctrine, could it?

I'm not looking at the game at the moment but I believe G.G. starts out as a three port doesn't it?

It's happened to me - or my ships rather. Gilli Gilli and the area around it is a mine and sub ambush zone.

With that on they "only" shoot at military targets correct? My IJN subs do better with the the Japanese sub doctrine off.

Port Size!

Post by joliverlay »

Submarine attacks do not occur against docked TFs or ships inside a size 3 or greater port. The targets can be hit only as the enter or leave the port. This may explain the fact that targets at PM and GG don't seem to get hit often. They may be docked!

Hey Tanaka

Acording to the manual the following criteria is used to determine whether or not a sub attack is made

1) Sub's max speed
2) TF's cruisisng speed
3) crew experience of sub
4) prior detection level of sub

Pay very close attention to #4 as Detection Level (DL) is the only one you have control over. If a sub is spotted be sure to move it the very next turn or it will be rendered ineffective as its DL rises each turn. As a result enemy TF's are able to avoid this sub more readily and after a few turns it is an easy target for an ASW TF.

Also, shallow water hexes make this problem even worse from a detection POV as well as ASW. So bottom line if you are sending your subs into shallow water hexes you better have a good reason!
