Only 1 convoy at a time?

I reconquered Rangoon, so the US-> China convoy opened back up in the port. But the US -> Aust convoy completely disappeared. Was this supposed to happen? Majors can only do one convoy at a time?

That's always been my experience when playing this game as the Allies. When the one route opens up, the other shuts down. According to the strategy guide if the US convoy cannot be sent to either Rangoon or Australia, then another US route opens up to the British Empire via Bombay.

Yeah, that had been a restriction for the SC series for a long time. WWI suffers from a similar problem, with the Allies not being able to support Italy and Serbia at the same time

Reading this thread explains why the U.S. convoy to Australia just disappeared in my current game as Allies. Only one convoy outward from a given power seems hard-wired into the SC system. But the devs could write a few new DEs giving the USA some tiered choices between their four Allies at various points in the game, so they can decide which ally they want to receive the U.S. convoy. It is not obvious to me why China should take priority over Australia or for that matter the British Empire. I wrote a similar script in my mod for SC WW1 to allow France to decide whether to continue sending its convoy to Serbia or to switch over to Italy when it enters the war. The same could be done in this game. It would pose an interesting strategic choice for the Allied player.
