Visual bug regarding gamma settings

Post by Nilserich7 »

Hello everyone,

I have a rather intense and very odd bug that occurs when I change the gamma value in the settings under Color Format. With gamma 1.00 everything is fine. Already at 1.01 I have massive glitches in the whole rendering. I have attached screenshots. Strangely enough, this was not always the case. But only recently, i think. The only change I've made that I can think of is changing the color scheme of the user interface. However, changing this does not solve the problem.

Unfortunately, all the problems are not quite as visible on them. Part of the rendering somehow seems to be at the highest level where it doesn't belong. So some of the moving elements of the background that are rendered were themselves on top of Windows' snippet tool for example, while the rest of the rendering were paused as they should be. When popups come from Windows or I want to show the taskbar, these are also overlaid by parts of the rendered background. I have tried to take a screenshot of this, but this is not possible, at least not with the snippet tool. It is definitely not playable this way, because everything in-game is also heavily affected by visual glitches. However, if the gamma value is set to 1.00 or lower, none of these problems occur. I hope my somewhat casual description helps. I've never seen anything like this before and frankly I have no clue what's going on or what the problem might be.

Of course, I have already tried various things and settings in the in-game menu:

Rendering Mode and Color Rendering Format have no influence on this problem. No matter which combination I set, this problem occurs when the gamma value is above 1.00.

I have deactivated the Steam Overlay and generally deactivated overlays and potentially invasive programs (e.g. RTSS, Discord and Nvidia Overlay).

Reinstalled Distant Worlds 2.

Deleted graphics card drivers in Safe Mode and reinstalled them.

Tried various settings in the Nvidia control panel: Changed preferred frame rate, changed gamma correction and changed texture filtering with related functions.

If there is any information that can help solve this problem that is missing, please let me know. I would also be very happy about a solution to this problem.

We recently released a new public beta version. Are you able to reproduce the issue on this new version?

You can check here how to access it: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 1&t=406327

Yes, with the beta version the problem also occurs again but only with HDR.

Strangely enough, the standard color space works again when I change the gamma value. Also with the current live version.

I could basically play in the standard range for the time being. But do you need any information from me to identify the problem?

Thanks, received. We'll investigate.

Do you have a video at all showing the issue in action?
