Future Combat Mission games?
Not sure where to put this or if the topic has been discussed already.
What are the plans for future releases of Combat Mission games if there are any?
There are still good areas to cover like Early Soviet invasion (1941-1942), Early Blitzkrieg (1939-1940), North Africa (1940-1943), etc.....
It's such a good game system IMO. It would be a shame if it ended.

Re: Future Combat Mission games?
Yes it's puzzles me to see the early years ignored. Lots of great material there.

At tactical level, I am tired of WW2. I prefer modern warfare.

Would like to see them reissue CM Afghanistan with the newer engine. I like that game and still play it even though its now defunct.
Iran-Iraq War would be a good "modern" topic as well as Arab-Israeli Wars.

Well, missile era. Let's say 1970-2024. Drones are an evolution not a revolution. A drone is still a missile.ernieschwitz wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 1:19 pmHow modern?ncc1701e wrote: Sun Oct 06, 2024 12:10 pm At tactical level, I am tired of WW2. I prefer modern warfare.
I think also that Electronic Warfare is not enough developped in tactical games.

Not difficult to know that. North Korea/Russia/China vs South Korea/Japan/Australia/NATO maybe Philipines. Hard to say what India or Vietnam would do. But once one side started shooting the others would join in soon enough. Whether or not it would go Nuke depends on how psychotic the Russian or American leaders are. I don't see China ever starting a nuke war. North Korea would certainly try and use nukes. Crazy persons in charge.

Re: Future Combat Mission games?
Yes, that is where I am getting at. Would there be any realism in these games at all, since the outcome if one side is losing badly might just be nuclear war, and thus, a draw.Lobster wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 8:42 pm Not difficult to know that. Want a classic Geo-political simple beer & pretzel game, try Balance of Power

Well me for example. I want to train myself.

Re: Future Combat Mission games?
Don't provide the ability. You could kick it off with an invasion of Taiwan or something could easily go awry in Europe. Current events certainly provide enough fodder for a large variety of possibilities.ernieschwitz wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:05 am Yes, that is where I am getting at. Re: Future Combat Mission games?
Not providing the ability would straight away put the scenario into fantasy land. Of course if you like that, I guess you could play any kind of tactical/strategic game. Fictional history of world war 2, or battles on the terraformed moon...

Re: Future Combat Mission games?
I guess if you really need to train to get into that nuclear protective gear, then go ahead and do that. Don't think that has much to do with gaming though.

Re: Future Combat Mission games?
I am not sure. Two years of conflict in Ukraine and there was no tactical nuke or anything like this. There is a step nobody is willing to pass. This is called MAD i.e. Mutual Assured Destruction.ernieschwitz wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 8:43 pmI guess if you really need to train to get into that nuclear protective gear, then go ahead and do that. About your second sentence, is Combat Mission a game or a serious game? Why is there a Combat Mission Pro in that case?

So it looks like the 'Pro' version is much more detailed than the commercial versions and not available as a commercial product available to the general public. At least I couldn't find any button allowing someone off the street to order. The commercial versions allow people to do things that would never happen in the real world. So yeah, not really serious. Because of the silly things the game allows people to do I stopped playing head to head a long time ago.ncc1701e wrote: Sat Oct 12, 2024 11:05 am About your second sentence, is Combat Mission a game or a serious game? Don't worry about Nuclear War that destroys the world.
I know it doesn't happen.
